Feels Like the First Time...

Tonight's color challenge gave me the chance to ink up BillboardaBella. She was in my very first order of Bellas, back when my Bella madness started. It felt good to get her out and remember that time of discovery. If you don't know this lovely Bella (what, are you kidding? Get to Em's site and get to know this lovely Bella!), she has six different messages that can be stamped on her board. Isn't that fun?! Tonight, I chose her birthday message.

The colors for tonight's challenge are: Tempting Turquoise, Perfect Plum, Ruby Red, and Cameo Coral. As you can see, I went very lightly with the Cameo Coral and Ruby red. (wink) I did try out a Bazzill precut strip. I bought two packages of these, one pink and one white, at AC Moore a while ago and haven't used them yet. This one looks like ric-rac, but it's flat--easy to cut and glue. I'll be using these strips a lot! I bought the sequins at my LSS a while ago, but I haven't used them either. I think they look like party confetti.

Stamp: Stamping Bella BillboardaBella
Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black
Papers: SU Tempting Turquoise, Perfect Plum, Tempting Turquoise dp, and PTI SS White
Accessories: Copic Markers, Nestabilities, Bazzill precut strip, misc. sequins, SU punch, CB embossing folder

The Nurse Will see You Now

Oh, I love new designer paper! I made a discovery this week--another scrapbooking store in Greensboro! They don't carry any stamps, so I could just focus on their paper, and they had a lot of paper I had not seen before. For example, I hadn't noticed the Kelly Panacci line before. They had some really pretty designs and color schemes, so the bulk of my purchase was from her line. I used two of the sheets on this get well card.

In Honor of Your Birthday

Today is a special day. My sister and I are eleven months apart. Today is her birthday so, for the next three weeks, she and I are the same age! Happy Birthday, Jennifer! Now that you're catching up with me and we're both, well, older, I thought I'd make a card that would make us feel young at heart. Yesterday, I received my new stamps from Eat Cake Graphics and I could not wait to make a card featuring this wading pool, so I thought it was perfect timing! I hope you like it, Jennifer, and I hope your day was a great one!

To make the card, I colored the images with Prisma color pencils and Gamsol. But, to do the background, I used green and blue Stampin' Pastels--both wet and dry. The finished card is 4 1/2" x 7 1/2".

Stamps: Eat Cake Graphics: Gwendaline's Ready for the Sun, Jimmie's in Charge of the Hose, and Wading Pool

Everything's Coming Up Daisies!

Happy Monday! And, here it is the end of July already! Time is really flying by, isn't it? August is a busy Birthday month for my husband's family, so I'll be glad to have so many cards stocked up. But, I think I need some more masculine cards! Isn't that always the story?

This card is for Bella Sketch challenge #39. Maisy Sunshine was almost too wide for the sketch, but I had already colored the image by the time I figured it out, so I stuck with her. Someday, I'll have a stockpile of colored images, but now I just color images as I need them. I do like the way the card turned out, though. How can you not like a card that has all of this PTI paper on it? I love their colors!

Stamp: Stamping Bella Maisy Sunshine
Ink: Adirondack Pitch Black
Papers: PTI Sweet Blush, Berry Sorbet, SS White, and 6" x 6" dp

A Clean, Simple CASE

This week's featured stamper is Artystamper. I chose this card to CASE because I just adore the clean lines of the background. Instead of the Amuse tree Julia did, I used my Unity Art stamps. To create my own version of Julia's tree bling, I turned again to Stamping Bella's dots. (I am putting these things everywhere--love them!)

Hit the Showers!

What do horseback riding, red swimming caps, and stinky goats have in common? They were each mentioned in my nieces' Girl Scout Camp stories! In addition, my sister had a shower story that the counselors shared with her that was pretty cute. Well, I don't have any stinky goat stamps, so I made a shower card instead. I think Sarah will get a kick out of all of the sparkles. Hopefully, I'll get it to her before she goes to camp next year!

Pearly and Pink

Can it be time for another color challenge already? This week, Sparkle chose Pixie Pink, Pink Passion, Going Gray, and Basic Gray. I was stumped at first, really stumped. But I decided to ink up this Cuppa Love stamp. I really couldn't wait to play with my new CB embossing border folder. Can you see the details? I went to my local scrapbooking store The Stamping and Scrapbooking Room and bought a whole batch of the new releases today. There's even a border that's...are you sitting down? a row of buttons! I can not stand it! I am going to be embossing everything I do! What fun!

Back to Reality

I'm late, I'm late for the color challenge! I had to use Grumpabella because this is how I felt Monday morning when that alarm went off. Boy, it was hard to get back to work after being on vacation! But, Grumpabella won't stay grumpy for long, not with these beautiful prisma flowers and Bella dots around her! Oh, and don't forget those bunny slippers--maybe she'll let me borrow them...sigh...

Almost forgot...The color challenge colors are: Tempting Turquoise, Gable Green, Going Gray, and Night of Navy. Don't you forget to comment on the post from Sunday to qualify for the blog candy giveaway! Thanks for stopping by.

My First 1,000 Hits and Some Blog Candy

Wow! While we were on vacation, my blog passed 1,000 hits. I ordered this stamp and put it back for my first blog candy and now it's time. The blog candy goodies are:

a Stamping Bella Teacup Daisies stamp
a spool of Stamping Bella juicy cherry ribbon
an assorted sample of Stamping Bella dots including two sizes of three colors
an assorted sample of Stamping Bella flower embellashments three colors
three yards of Taylored Expressions orange twill

Let's see...we need a deadline. Let's say that I'll announce a winner at 8 pm est on Thursday evening. If you want to play, leave a comment. Here's the topic: when I'm on vacation, my favorite thing to eat is breakfast. Because life gets so busy, we just don't get out for breakfast very often. So, when we're on vacation, I try to get Brent up and out at least once or twice. I love to eat a sausage biscuit for breakfast, especially at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant where they know how to make a good biscuit. In your comment, tell me your favorite thing to eat while you're on vacation. Thanks and good luck!

For a Friend with A New Friend

Oh, it feels so good to be back in my stamping room! The laundry is started, the groceries are stocked, our cat is taken care it's time to play! Hooray!

This card is for a friend of mine who lost her canine friend of 17 years. Before we left for vacation a week ago, she had started the adoption process for a new puppy.

My package of new SU colors arrived while we were gone. As soon as I saw the Tangerine Tango, I wanted to put it with PTI's Summer Sunrise. I love them together! And, the DP is a piece that I picked up at the beach. Great colors! I'm loving the Red Riding Hood too, of course, I like reds a lot anyway. It'll be fun to play with the new colors.

One Last Look

I couldn't leave without posting a few more pictures of our vacation home (check out the great candy colors, don't they inspire you to stamp?!) We stayed at the Prince Resort in Cherry Grove, South Carolina. One of the attractions of the resort is its pier, which was built in 1956. This just amazes me. I don't understand how they had the technology to get out into the ocean and build this pier in that time. It really is beautiful. The hotel is a relatively new addition, though. We enjoy it very much (this is our third visit!) My husband and I agree that one of our other favorite features is the grill that sits at the base of the pier (see the top picture). There's something really awesome about sitting on the beach for a morning then eating great food on the pier. But, as much as I love this place, I am ready to head home tomorrow morning. See you all on the web soon!

Simply Happy Flowers

Tomorrow we will be heading back home. I'll be glad to see my stamps and our cat. But, it will be hard to leave this beautiful place and face the big pile of laundry that we will carry with us! And, I don't want to think about work on Monday morning. Sigh...

This is the other photo I stored before our vacation.

The Close to My Heart stamps are fun to play with. This flower set has a lot of options, but I played it pretty simply this time. I have been wanting to play with this DP for a while and this vase and flower seemed just right for it.

Postcard From Room 406

Here it is, friends, the view we see from our room. Can you believe it? I love to be near the beach, always have. And, staying in a room this close to the ocean is one of my favorite things. Brent has been playing golf. I have been walking and shopping with the friend we came down with. We have all been watching their four year-old son enjoy the pool. Tomorrow, I plan to sit on the shore and read all day (oh, and teach their son how to make a sandcastle!). I tell you, if I had my stamps and some Copic markers here, I would never leave!

I hope that you are doing well too. Take care and thanks for stopping by. Oh, and, wish you were here!

It's not easy being...a turtle!

We are on vacation in Cherry Grove, South Carolina. The beach is so beautiful! I am missing my rubber stamps, but I did get to stop in to visit a stamp yesterday. I chose some fun papers, but was almost too overwhelmed after the long drive to choose any stamps. It was such a shame because they had so many to look at. Does anyone else have trouble shopping for stamps when your husband is waiting in the hot car? LOL! I would just rather be there by myself when I can take my time. Oh well, it was fun to see a new place.

This is one of the pictures I had stored.

My nieces are at Girl Scout Camp this week, so my DH and I have been sending them some snail mail. I wanted to make a bright, colorful card that would make one of them smile. I think I've accomplished the bright part! I'm not happy with the way the scallops overlap, so I would change that if I made this card again. But, I hope the card does its job.

You're Getting Better!

This card is for yesterday's technique challenge, the grid technique. It feels so strange to make a card that doesn't have any coloring on it! the inside of the card says, of course, "You're getting better!"

I have been thinking about the new PTI release today, so I guess that made me choose PTI papers for the card. I haven't used this old SU set for years. Thanks for visiting the blog today!

My Sister and My Best Friend

This new Chichiboulie image is very meaningful to me. Gretchen, the Chichiboulie artist, based it on her daughters. She has two daughters who appear to be close in age, and one young son. My sister and I are very close in age (11 months apart) and my brother is 8 years younger than I am. When I read the story behind this stamp, I knew I would have to have it and that I would enjoy using it.

This card is for Bella Sketch Challenge #37.

Today is a big day in my house! My DH and I are packing up so we can drive to Cherry Grove, South Carolina tomorrow. This is a picture of the view we'll have (my dad took the photo when we were at the same condos last Christmas). I'm so thrilled to have a week off work and to be heading for the coast. I've stored a couple of posts, so the blog won't be completely neglected. But I won't be posting as frequently as I have been.

I did scope out the stamp stores in the area. I'm hoping to check one out especially, they have a great web site. They even had an online coupon which is printed and in my purse! I hope everyone else has a good week too. I'm planning to make the most of every moment of mine.

A Sweet Summer Treat

This card is for Sunday's Featured Stamper Challenge. I chose this card, to CASE because I immediately thought about using my favorite Berry Bliss papers. And, the stamp, oh, the stamp! This one has been a go-to favorite of mine for a very long time. And, since I discovered Copic Markers, this stamp has jumped to the front of the pack again.

For the challenge, I changed the DP, the ribbon, and the image. After I changed the embellishment, I threw three more on the card, just for good measure!

And a Purse to Match!

Stamps with dress images are among my favorites (well, I have a lot of favorite stamps!) Check out this new dress image from Gina K's Retro Boutique set! Isn't it great fun? I want to color it and piece it and color and piece it! So, today I colored part of it and pieced part of it. Then, I made a purse to match. Too fun, really!

High-Flying Imogen

This afternoon, I wanted to do another product test. I love working with twinkling H2O's, so I was excited to see the Pearlescent paint palette on the My Favorite Things site. I haven't had the chance to play with it though, so I got it out today.

I stamped Imogen the Fairy (by Chichiboulie for Stamping Bella) and used my Copics to color her skin, hair, and a blue outline. Then I started painting. I was disappointed in the way the paints blended, or didn't blend, and I feel like I didn't get any depth in the final image. With Twinkling H2O's, it's fairly easy to "melt" two colors together, but this was not the case with these paints. They may work well with images that only require one color and no blending or shading but, as you can see, they left this poor fairy looking pretty flat. Of course, someone else may be able to get more out of them than I did.

To make up for the lack of interest in the color, I added adhesive jewels and a pearl to the final image. Then I put some scalloped layers and a pretty dp layer in. the final card is kind of over the top! But, I know the perfect frilly lady to send it to.

A Funky Thank-you

Today, the "Ways to Use it Challenge" caught my eye. The challenge was to do something "mini", anything. Well, that got me thinking back to those new stamps I received yesterday. I am so in love with that batch of new stamps, I just want to carry them around them with me!

Anyway, the word "mini" made me think of the "Funky Potted Flower" stamps I ordered. As you can see, there are two of them, one big, one mini. Perfect! So, I put this card together. Then, just for good measure, I added some big dots and some mini dots to the final product. What fun!

A Happy Ending

Today was a happy day--my Bella stamps arrived! Among them was Stargazing by Tiddy Inks. So, I decided to try the Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge. Boy, this card took a long time to make. I don't know, I just couldn't get the measurements and angles down. Anyway, I'm going to give it to my husband for our anniversary.

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I am not a fan of light blue. Around here, it means UNC Tarheels. But, my husband looks really good in light blue and he wears it all the time. So, I'll swallow my Wolfpack pride and enjoy this card. It's got plenty of Tiddly Inks goodness to make up for the blue! :)

Fluffy and Sweet

Tonight's card is a quick product test. I bought a new-to-me bottle of TSC Designs Puffy 3-D Glue that I've been wanting to try so I stamped and colored this sweet cupcake stamp from Lockhart stamps. Then I dabbed some glue on each cupcake, topped each one with a glitter dot from Stamping Bella, and hit the whole image with my heat gun. I am delighted with the results! If I had a better camera you would see how frothy and fluffy the icing appears to be. To me, it's much more impressive than liquid applique, although it seemed more difficult to squeeze the product out than it is to squeeze liquid applique. The label says that the glue can be mixed with paint to get different colors, but I think the white is really cute. And, how can you beat the pow of the glitter dot on top? Overall, I'd say the product test is a success.

Flowers, and Stripes, and Buttons, Oh my!

I taught elementary school for 12 years and one of the leftovers from my classroom is a giant jar of buttons--Two of them, if I'm honest. I love buttons! Every time I get near embellishments, I purchase them and, yet, I reach for those old, worn out, button jars all of the time, can't help it.

So, tonight is Bella Sketch Challenge #36 and here is my card. Notice the three buttons in the corner. I tried other things, but the buttons just did the trick for me. I did reverse the sketch because Maisy's Daisy is on the left and I wanted to cover its stem instead of her legs and shoes. Isn't she the prettiest thing? Leave it to a Chichiboulie fairy to pull off a pink jumpsuit!

I found one, it's for you!

It's no secret if you know anything about my stamping. I'm addicted to stamps from Stamping Bella! This sweet fairy is by Chichiboulie. I wanted her to look as if she is peeking out from among the flowers to present this egg.

Her dress and headband are paper-pieced from the same paper that I used on the background. Her shoes, collar, sleeve ruffle, and egg bow are coated with Stickles.

In Honor of Sisters

Last night, we met my sister and her family at my parents' house for a Fourth of July celebration. My nieces had the chance to play with their first sparklers before the rain finally took over. They are so much fun to watch! When I woke up, I thought about making a card with this image, because it reminds me of them. So, this one is in honor of Helen and Sarah.

I've been practicing with my colored pencils, so I thought I'd use them this morning. The coloring seemed to be a better match for the designer paper. One thing that made it easier today was using the blending stumps that I bought from Gina K's sight. She said that they are different and I'd say she's right. I'm not as comfortable with the pencils as I am with the Copic markers, but maybe I'll get there.

A Very Brady Bella

I'm not sure what I ate last night, but I was dreaming about this color challenge (Only Orange, Chocolate Chip, and Soft Sky). Are you as old enough to remember the Brady Bunch cartoons, the ones where the kids were floating on flowers of all colors? Well, that's what I was dreaming about last night. Before I went to sleep, I was thinking of doing Ipodabella for the color challenge and that may have set things off. Here's what I came up with.

The background and the Bella layer are stamped with my good old SU Groovy set. I flocked Bella's collar and the trim of her jacket, of course. Then I used my Spica pen to decorate her Ipod and my Stickles to set off her hairbow, heart patch, and clutch. The final touch to the card was the paper piercing in the corner. Thanks for stopping by and, Happy Fourth of July!

My Brother-in-Law is pretty special. He takes good care of my sister and of my nieces. We've had some great times over the years, lots of the them at the beach. I made this birthday card for him. A Little Bird Told Me...

I've been looking into the Unity Stamp Company and, when they had their release party the other night, I finally caved. I wanted to order the Giggle Grove set, and when they released a couple of new sets that caught my attention, I placed my order. It was fun to work with these trees!

Recently, I've colored almost every card I've made. So, it was fun to do the old huffing technique again. I used to make a whole workshop out of huffing--people loved it! It seems like old news now, but it worked well with the simple outlines of these images.
